DIXON TAKES EARLY POINT LEAD IN F1000
NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
REEN
BAY, WIS. (January 11, 2010) – The 2010 F1000 National Championship got underway January 1 in
Homestead, Florida with a double national weekend. Brandon Dixon
(Citation) started off perfectly, claiming victory in both races. Glenn
Cooper (RFR) finished second in both races as he attempts to defend his
2009 National Championship. Joe Fitos (Stohr) was classified 3rd in
both races, although he was 9 laps down in the first race due to damage
from a first lap incident. That same incident also ended Bill
McLaughlin's (RFR) weekend as he was shown as DNS for both races. They
hope to have the car repaired in time for the double nationals at
Sebring this weekend.

Weather played a big part in the race results at the Sebring double national held this past weekend. For the Saturday event, current points leader Brandon Dixon (Citation), defending national champion Glenn Cooper (RFR), and Joe Fitos (Stohr) elected to stay warm and dry in their trailers, leaving Tom Beattie (Elan) and George Levien (Stohr) to duke it out in the freezing rain, with Beattie taking the victory.
On Sunday, all the entrants took the green flag, with Brandon Dixon once again taking the win while also setting a new Sebring long course track record of 2:04.674. Congrats to Brandon! Cooper came home second, Beattie filled out the podium, Fitos finished fourth and Levien was fifth. Unfortunately, the damage incurred to Bill McLaughlin's RFR the week prior at Homestead was too severe to complete in time and they were unable to make Sebring.
